この曲は George Michaelが 『Wham!』時代にヒットさせた曲。Wham!は Andrew Ridgeleyとのコンビだったのが86年に解散。その後ジョージはソロで活動し、アルバム【FAITH】が大ヒット。
グラミー賞アルバム部門を獲得した。ただ彼はその後６年ものあいだ、音楽活動を休止していた。復活したのは96年の【OLDER】から。ゲイであることはともかくとして、プライベートでも何かと問題が多く、性癖が原因で逮捕されたのは有名な話。
彼の甘くせつない声にこの曲はベストマッチ。特に "Now who is ganno dance with me"からの切り返し "Please dance"は彼の広音域の真骨頂だ。日本でも GaySongシンガーがカバーして歌ったようだが、どこにも『ジルバ』などという歌詞は出てこない。やはり本家本元はジョージ・マイchaeル。バラードの中では外せない一曲だ。
